Starting from 1 January 2019, Article 351.2 of the Labour Code of the Russian Federation has been repealed. The 2018 FIFA World Cup and the other major sports events covered thereby have already become history and therefore, the articles of the Labour Code and a number of other instruments associated therewith have lost their relevance.

Legal Basis and Details:

• Federal Law No. 108-FZ “On Preparing and Holding the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in the Russian Federation and Amending Certain Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation”.

Comments: the entities created for the duration of the WC continue operating and employing their staff. However, such entities and their employees no longer enjoy the preferences or exemptions provided for by Article 351.2 of the Labour Code of the Russian Federation and Federal Law No. 108-FZ, as the sports events are now over and there is no need to deviate from the uniform rules laid down in the Labour Code of the Russian Federation.
