How devices get infected:
- You receive a text message (the sender may even be one from your address book) with a link to an online resource (the message may look like this: Hello! Look at the photo I found of us together: LINK);
- By clicking on the link you automatically install malware which starts distributing a virus to your contacts. Besides, fraudsters may acquire passwords to your mailboxes, social networking site accounts and even bank accounts, if you store them on your mobile phone.
How to protect yourself:
- Install applications from Google Play Store only! Never download applications from third-party websites as the files you download may be infected.
- Keep track of what you “allow” your application to do: don’t let it send out any messages on your behalf, access your contacts, etc.
- Use secure passwords only. We recommend setting a really complicated password for unlocking the screen and refraining from using an unlock pattern or a PIN. Your password should normally consist of at least ten characters, including case-sensitive letters, numbers and symbols. Do not save passwords in your browser.
- Install security software, such as antivirus software, password manager, safe web surfing, etc.
